I am a bioanalytical chemist with more than 12 years of experience utilizing liquid-chromatography -mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to study food and biological systems. I have worked on lipid chemistry focusing on its preparation, extraction, biochemistry, and analysis (lipidomics). My research involves the study of food-derived sphingolipids (SL), obesity associated with SL metabolism, and analysis technique development including lipid mediators such as sphingosine-1-phosphate.  I am also working on numerous applications of targeted and untargeted mass spectrometry to discover lipid biomarkers in cells, murine, and human samples of various pathological conditions such as obesity, myocardial infarction, and influenza infection.  Current interests include discovering novel functions and developing analytical strategies for lipids (FAHFA: fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids, oxidized fatty acids) and gut-microbial metabolites (SCFA: short-chain fatty acids, short-chain fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids (SFAHFA). I also work on characterizing unknown lipids and compositions in functional foods with the aid of LC-MS.
